Los Angeles | The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter deserves it’s own post, separate to my top tips for Universal Studios Hollywood which I wrote this week here.

#1: Grab a Photo with the Conductor in front of the Hogwarts Express.

This is the first thing you see upon entering the Wizarding World. Although we didn’t do this, you can also go inside the train to take a photo – but for a price – 25 dollars to be exact. We skipped this, but diehards probably shouldn’t.

#2: Grab a cup of Butterbeer

Next, you’ll want to head over to the Butterbeer cart to grab a cup while you wander through Hogsmeade. We opted for frozen (which was also the most popular at the time) because on a hot LA day, it’s extremely refreshing. That said, it’s one sweeeeet drink! To me, it tastes exactly like a soda float topped with vanilla ice cream. But you gotta try it. The Butterbeer cart also has other other options, including water, lemonade, and pumpkin juice.

#3: Indulge your sweet-tooth at Honeydukes

Chocolate frogs & Bertie Bots Every Flavour Beans are always on the top our list on our Harry Potter adventures. Bertie Bots Beans are also a fun gift for your Harry Potter Geek friend. They come in extremely odd flavours – some taste nice while others are just disgusting! But that’s the fun, picking a bean and popping it in your mouth to reveal the new crazy flavour.

Flavours include: Banana, Black Pepper, Blueberry, Booger, Candyfloss, Cherry, Cinnamon, Dirt, Earthworm, Earwax, Grass, Green Apple, Marshmallow, Rotten Egg, Sausage, Lemon, Soap, Tutti-Fruitti, Vomit and Watermelon.

#4: Buy an Interactive Wand (especially for the kids)

If you buy an interactive wand, it will come with a map leading you to locations throughout the Wizarding World where you can cast spells. Throughout the day we saw little-lies as young as 3 waving their wand at windows along Hogsmeade and it was honestly the cutest thing! It honestly looks like so much and you would honestly be the best parents ever. These interactive wands will even work at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida, too.

You can grab a wand at a stand outside, or in Olivander’s Wand Shop. You can even get ‘paired’ with a wand in the shop at as of the ‘attractions’, but there is always a wait.

#5: Grab Lunch at the Three Broomsticks

While I’m not a fan of eating in Theme Parks, it is one of the better restaurants inside the Park. They serve traditional English pub food plus if you need a stronger drink than butterbeer, you can grab at the adults pub.

Here is an article on the top 10 dishes available.

#6: Try a smaller rollercoaster, the Flight of the Hippogriff

It’s a great one to start out with if your kids have never been on a rollercoaster. It’s also the only way to get up close and personal with Hagrid’s House and flying motorcycle (while waiting in the line).

TOP TIP: Ride as a single rider to skip the long lines.

#7:  Fly Away on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

My favourite ride by far, this is the one inside the castle (“Hogwarts”). They’re really constructed these rides well as you wait in the line while “exploring the castle”. In one section there is even a little room with the taking paintings and it’s unbelievable how well they’ve been made!

By the way, you’ll have to store any bags or any bulky items that won’t fit in your pocket for this ride so do that before you get in the line. We had a GoPro Selfie stick which Craig shoved in his pocket, and I had to shove my phone in my sports bra (I know!).
